MAKOTO OKI

Makoto Oki's beginnings a metal-carving designer add a unique sensibility to his techniques. His works harmoniously balance the warmth of traditional ceramics and the cool, novel textures of metal. In his pieces, you'll find bold colorings of silver, red, and gray along with exquisitely controlled glazing.

In 2009, Oki entered the Ceramics Institute at Kasama, a city well-known for producing functional household goods with imaginative designs. Kasama Ware was named a Japanese National Craft in 1992 and remains popular for its distinctive style and exceptional quality. Both can be seen throughout Oki’s work.
