Hanako Nakazato comes from a family of Japanese potters stretching back 14 generations. Her creative techniques and philosophy are grounded in the ceramic traditions of her hometown, Karatsu, and the teachings of her father Takashi Nakazato.
Hanako’s years of travel and life in the West have added further dimensionality to her work. She balances both her regional and foreign influences, resulting in tableware that's functional in various settings, from minimal and modern to traditional and rustic.
Her studios—Monohanakoin Karatsu, Japan and Monohanako West in Union, ME—symbolize the unique, wide-ranging quality of her work.
