Mini Exhibition
" New Beginning "

Print and Sculpture by Katie Yang
March 6th Fri. - March 12th Thu.

We are happy to announce that Sara Japanese Pottery will present mini exhibition "New Beginning".
Featuring monotype and ceramic sculptures by New York based artist Katie Yang.

I visited Katie Yang’s residence to take a look at her recent print works. Her apartment is located on Lexington Avenue in midtown Manhattan. She draws with watercolor mixed with Sumi ink on plexi glass, dries it, tops it with a wet good quality paper, then transfers the drawing onto the paper using a press machine. Her prints, similar to Japanese Ensoh, is both simple like her ceramic work and vibrant like Hokusai’s famous waves.

An Ouroboros is an ancient Greek mythical snake that swallows its own tail, representing renewal, re-emergence and eternity.  Katie gives a meaning of "New Beginning" to her prints. ”To me, everything always continues to be renewed and the circular shape represents this.” Sun rises tomorrow again and in the spring a new breath of nature returns.  Katie chooses the circle, a meaningful symbol, to express this feeling.

She said she will be challenging herself to make bigger art works.

I would like to watch the New Beginning of Katie Yang as she continues to explore this theme using different materials and techniques such as ceramic and prints.
