THE ASIA SOCIETY AND SARA GALLERY ANNOUNCE
"IRON MEETS CLAY"

Naoki Uemura of the Sara Gallery in New York is pleased to assist the Asia Society with the production of Iron Meets Clay, a special evening of Japanese-inspired art and aesthetics.
Iron Meets Clay will feature three Japanese-inspired artists represented at Sara Gallery:

The event will take place on Monday, April 11, 2005, at the blacksmith shop and studio of James Garvey, located in a converted 19th-century beer brewery in Harlem and rarely open to the public. The artists will introduce their work and discuss their inspirations and artistic perspectives. Then theyıll demonstrate their craft by throwing pots, hand-building clay vessels and firing and forging iron. This event is limited to twenty of the Asia Societyıs top members and will be moderated by journalist Harris Salat, whose feature piece about Japanese food and pottery will be published in the August issue of Gourmet. The government of the Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan has graciously donated its region's top sake, which will be served at the event with the artists' vessels.
